Stop Quitting On Your Goals

December 23, 2019

When you have a goal of changing your situation, building a new habit, getting stronger, losing fat, improving something or making your life better it’s not always going to be smooth sailing. And you won’t always see the progress outwardly.

Some days even when progress is happening on the inside of your body it will seem to you that you have come to a standstill – or worse yet you’re going backwards. This is because the change doesn’t always show up on the outside right away.

Take for example a goal of muscle building. You might actually be building more muscle but you can’t notice it on your body yet and you step on the scale, see that its gone up so you immediately assume you have put on fat, when in actuality it’s muscle, or glycogen in your muscles from the extra food – which is going to LEAD to more muscle if you keep at it.

But instead of continuing on, doing the things you need to do to get the result – you swap your goal. You say, “It’s been a week and I don’t see anything, it just must not be working. “Or I’ll have a break and come back to it later” Or “Well the fat loss hasn’t budged in 3 days so I might as well cut out my carbs and try keto now.”

Do you see how illogical this sounds when I put it like that? Yet people say this to me all the time.

The problem with this is that you will never stick at something long enough to actually get a result – so you will be on this endless hamster wheel of chasing goals in life without actually getting any results. Sounds so damn frustrating, right?

Everything takes time. And the only way you fail is if you quit. You’ll plateau; you’ll lose motivation. You’ll mess up sometimes. You’ll have bad days. You’ll want to quit. But you have to make the decision right now to keep going and NOT quit. And if you do that you will get the results you want.

Remember your situation is usually the result of 3-6 months of daily actions. So if you are plateauing it’s NOT because of that cookie you ate YESTERDAY. Today’s situation is not the result of yesterday’s food or yesterday’s missed workout. It’s the culmination of your daily actions over the course of weeks and months.

The results happen when you CONTINUE to execute on the actions you KNOW are right regardless of what is or isn’t visibly changing.

Remember this when you are thinking about your goals for 2020!
